Storms are a brewing! Thus the year begins. It is 4:03 AM here and people are still shooting off fireworks. By sunrise the silence will be deafening. We took a late afternoon trip to Port Townsend yesterday returning around 6PM. Simply put - stay off the roads, especially two lane ones full of traffic and distracted people.
Tomorrow the Food Fight Fun begins. Here is how I would like to see everything play out:
1) Remember the secret return to the White House by Biden and Harris? Tomorrow they come out swinging - and formally challenger Trump’s legitimacy to hold office. According to the 14th Amendment, as an Insurrectionist he is disbarred from holding public office. This of course will be immediately litigated in the courts, the media and in Congress.
2) Congress is a Mess. I doubt if they will elect a speaker by Friday. The recent MAGA Civil War is ongoing. Those in Congress who are cowering in fear of Musk and his holding threats of Primary-ing them out of office if they don’t follow hm in lockstep are probably becoming just as afraid of their Gun-toting constituents. It would only take a few resignations or flipping to the Democratic side to flip the House, resulting in Jeffries becoming the Speaker.
3) Jeffries would hold off Certifying the Vote until the question of Trump’s legitimacy has been decided. Most likely by Monday the House will still be holdong vote after vote and MAG Mike will remain unthroned. Without this step, the Election cannot be certified by Congress.
4) If this goes on for several weeks, it would postpone the Inauguration. Because of #1 this could go on several months. Won’t it be fun?Trump will become Apoplectic.
5) In this unlikely scenario, the President Pro-tem of the Senate becomes the acting President. That would be Senator Chuck Grassley who is 91. However, in the unliley scenario of the Senate flipping to a Democratic Majority between now and then, we would instead get Senator Patty Murray. She would become the first Female President - “in tennis shoes”.
The Media and MAGA Land will scream “CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS!!!” for sure - ignoring the fact that we are already in the worst Constitutional Crisis since the Confederacy.
<NOTE FROM JANUARY 6th: None of this happened. However, the Blizzard of January 6th might postpone Certification a day or two>
Of course, the best places to hear what is happening seem to be the substacks of Heather Cox Richardson and Robert Reich. Aaron Parnas, son of Lev, is getting a good reputation for accuracy and immediacy and there are others that I follow m Social Media. I hope TikTok survives - but is forced to clean up its algorithms. I expect it will be ruined like Twitter. I have joined BlueSky and its occasionally entertaining. I wish there was a better place to go than Facebook. Maybe it will improve after Google is split up, assuming that happens.

Maybe I will leave this post as it is, and write about what I have been doing and dealing with or laughing about in another post. I will be trying to post more content here and in my other dormant blogs as I transition into a different phase of life. Meanwhile, I am not even going to bother editing this post as it is only frigging 4:30 AM and people are STILL shooting off fireworks here.
