There really is/was an Idar Slothaug. He ran for some lesser public office in Kitsap several decades ago, and Ron liberated one of his campaign signs after the election, and it was displayed proudly in the workshop for many years. We used to sing, "Idar, Idar Slothaug, fire commissioner" to the tune of the Davy Crockett TV show theme song.

In my fictionalized world, Idar S. is a "they", not a "he".
We remember his campaign signage well. Did he actually get elected?
I just wanted to point out the use of the gender pronoun They. This is not a typo. Neither is They or Those when referring to Slothaug
